Unpopular opinion: keep your cherry kitchen cabinets and update everything else.
When we decided to make the grand leap to renovate our outdated kitchen, laundry room, mud room and half bath, we knew it was going to be a whirlwind.

As homeowners to a 20 year old brick house, we knew we had good bones to start with. What we didn’t initially comprehend was the complexity accompanying electrical issues, the demolition and how that time would extend further than what we wished for.

Yet I am happy to say that after 9 weeks of demolition and renovation, I’m finally here to tell you— it was worth it.

It may not be to everyone, because we didn’t rip out one particular thing… but to us, it has completely transformed the house, our functional living space, and our day-to-day organization.

What we kept:
- Original custom cherry kitchen cabinets
- All doors and pre-existing trim
- Kitchen layout
- Kitchen island cabinets
I would like to preface this with explaining how I absolutely despised the cherry kitchen cabinets at first. Literally— detested them. But after living in the home for a year, I grew to understand their value. While I wasn’t fond of the color after previously having an all white kitchen, I grew to admire their custom fit to the home and warm tones. Not only were the cherry cabinets a perfect fit, they were in VERY good shape for the amount of children and pets that had been through the home. I discovered that the cabinet style was modern before its’ time for its incorporation of functions such as pull out drawers and deep cabinet space.
